I am accepting graduate student applications in Health Psychology at UBC for the December 1, 2025 deadline.

Prospective graduate students:
Graduate students are full collaborators in our work, and they receive extensive opportunities and support for presentations, publications, grant writing, and interdisciplinary research. I only accept applications through Health Psychology, which is a research-oriented MA & PhD program. I do not supervise graduate students whose primary interests are in other areas of psychology (e.g., clinical, social) or who are enrolled/intend to enroll in UBC graduate programs in other fields.

If you are a domestic/Canadian student, it is also strongly recommended that you apply for tri-council funding the same year that you apply for graduate school. Applying for funding is assessed favourably as part of the application review process for graduate school because it demonstrates a commitment to research. To be eligible to hold the award at UBC-Vancouver, you need to list UBC-Vancouver as a potential host organization in your application. The proposal you submit for tri-council funding is also used by the Psychology Fellowships committee to evaluate and assign internal fellowships from UBC. Information about tri-council funding is available here: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/canada-graduate-research-scholarships-masters-cgrs-m-program

Please also note that I receive a large volume of inquiries. To be fair to all applicants, I do not schedule meetings or provide feedback before applications are due. I typically schedule Zoom interviews in December or January after I have reviewed all applications. Based on those Zoom interviews, I might then invite one or more students for the graduate recruitment event at UBC.

Prospective undergraduate students:
Volunteering and/or enrolling in PSYC 240 as a Research Assistant (RA) are great ways to get hands-on experience with research. Experience in a research lab is especially important for students who are considering research-oriented graduate programs. For students who show strong commitment and interest, there are opportunities for working on presentations based on lab projects. We often invite our most outstanding RAs to continue in the lab with longer-term Directed Studies or Honours projects, and occasionally in paid roles; priority for each of these roles will be given to students who have volunteered or taken course credit in our lab for at least two terms. RAs are expected to contribute 6-9 hours per week of lab work for at least 12 months.
If you are interested in joining our lab, please fill out this form to indicate your interests, and we'll get in contact with you.
